Making the Photo: Still Standing Strong

[ppp_non_patron_only]Welcome to the “Making the Photo” by Dear Bubbles for April 2026! This month, we review "Still Standing Strong," a photograph I made while teaching at the Moab Photography Symposium in September 2025. Besides talking about how I use the Protect function and how to interpret the histogram when you see a little spike on the end (with a connection to white balance!), I introduce The Visual Journey, a four-step process that can help you be more deliberate in the design of your photograph. The four steps are:
  1. Your trigger/intention
  2. How you grab attention in your frame
  3. How you keep attention within the frame (orientation)
  4. What lingers with the viewer because of their experience within your frame (engagement)
