Making the Photo: Worth the Wait
[ppp_non_patron_only] Welcome to June's episode of “Making the Photo” by Dear Bubbles!
For this month, I’m reviewing a photograph I call “Worth the Wait" from May 2022 in the Badlands National Park, South Dakota. Hear how taking a second chance on this park after a not-so-great first experience (with the help of my friend and fellow photographer, Ian Plant) lead to this gorgeous moment in this stunningly wild landscape. Learn how to utilize a graduated neutral density filter to balance challenging low-light exposures, how to incorporate lines for meaning and depth, and how to tap into the distortion of wide-angle lenses through the "forced" perspective technique to achieve a relative-size illusion.
As with all the Making the Photo videos, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at why this scene caught my eye, how I approached the scene from a creative and technical perspective, what exposure settings and other camera equipment I used, and the processing techniques I used to polish my image into my final vision.
